Turn off the gas at the meter if it is safe to do so, open doors and windows, leave the property and call the National Gas Emergency Service on 0800 111 999. It is free and open 24 hours a day.
An audible carbon monoxide alarm in rooms with fuel-burning appliances is good practice. Choose one that meets the BS EN 50291 standard and test it regularly.
Gas boilers, cookers and fires should be checked regularly. If you are a landlord, appliances and flues must be checked every 12 months and your tenants given a copy of the record.
